Creating fine-crafted GIFs for Mac users worldwide.
GIF Brewery by Gfycat gives everyone the power to create stunning GIFs from video files. It’s simple, powerful, intuitive to use – and now it’s FREE!
Also, today marks the release of GIF Brewery 3.1 on the Mac App Store. It features improvements to screen recording, Gfycat integration, .gif opening, and lots of other updates and fixes.
The GIF Brewery 3.0.1 preview beta has been updated and is currently available until April 15, 2016.
The important changes are:
Hello, GIF Brewers! GIF Brewery 3 is now released.
GIF Brewery 3 is a rebuilt version of GIF Brewery that transitions to the latest OS X technologies. GIF Brewery 3 requires the latest version of OS X, 10.11 El Capitan.
Since GIF Brewery 3 is a big behind-the-scene change, it has been released as a seperate app from the current version. GIF Brewery 2.3.5 has been retired and removed from sale.
To help people transition to this new app version, GIF Brewery 3 is a free app for the first two weeks of release. Anyone who downloads it from the Mac App Store in the first two weeks will get GIF Brewery 3 for free.
You can see a full list of changes over at the GIF Brewery 3 preview beta website. We’ll be updating the beta page soon to guide beta users to the official release. (If you have used the beta, please make sure to delete it and empty your Trash before installing the Mac App Store version.)
The changes are also included in the brand new welcome screen that appears when you open GIF Brewery 3.
GIF Brewery 3 is now the definitive version of GIF Brewery. All future updates will be for GIF Brewery 3 and will be available for free.
There will be some minor updates, such as 3.0.1 and 3.0.2, that’ll focus on bug fixes & minor new features.
We’ll also be creating some step-by-step walkthroughs for some of the new features soon (like iOS recording and new saved frames feature) and posting them here on gifbrewery.com.
We’ll also begin work on the next big update, 3.1. We have some initial ideas, but feel free too continue provide suggestions via e-mail or @gifbrewery. We will also include new features from the next version of OS X.
Hello, GIF Brewers! It’s been a long time, but we’re happy to announce the release of GIF Brewery 3. GIF Brewery 3 will be released on February 25, 2016. Also, GIF Brewery 3 will be free for the first two weeks!

The current GIF Brewery (2.3.5) in the store is being retired and removed from sale before GIF Brewery 3’s release. Users of 2.3.5 can continue to use it. It will remain in your Mac App Store Purchases for redownload.
However, all future updates and work will be on GIF Brewery 3.
We’d like to offer a huge thanks to everyone has tried GIF Brewery 3 over the past months and provided invaluable feedback.
Finally, thanks to all GIF Brewery 2.3.5 and prior users. We hope you enjoy GIF Brewery 3 and its future updates.
See you on the 25th!
The final GIF Brewery 3 pre-release version is now available at its normal spot.
This update includes:
There may be future updates for bug fixes, but the next time most see GIF Brewery 3 will be in the Mac App Store with a brand new icon and maybe some other surprises! We’re also actively working on re-doing tutorials for GIF Brewery 3.
As a reminder to those who haven’t been following GIF Brewery 3’s progress, GIF Brewery 3 will be a separate app from the current GIF Brewery 2.3.5 release. So, if you love your Perian or Quicktime components, you’ll still be able to use GIF Brewery 2.3.5 alongside GIF Brewery 3.
However, prior to GIF Brewery 3’s release, GIF Brewery 2.3.5 will be removed from sale from the Mac App Store. If you’ve already purchased GIF Brewery 2.3.5, you’ll still be able to re-download it from your Purchases tab in the Mac App Store. GIF Brewery 2.3.5 support will also officially end with Yosemite – though it should run fine on OS X 10.11 El Capitan.
As for GIF Brewery 3, when it is released, it’ll be a free app for a week to help people upgrade without having to pay twice. Then it’ll be $0.99 (or local equivalent) for another week, before returning to its current pricing. We’ll announce the release date ahead of time here on gifbrewery.com and @gifbrewery on twitter.
As always, thanks for all the support and happy GIF brewing!

The GIF Brewery 3 beta has been updated with some bug fixes and minor feature additions. The beta has also been extended until July 20. You can read more about the changes on the beta site.
Also, this is the penultimate beta. The next beta will be the final one before release on the Mac App Store. We hope you’ve enjoyed the betas and we’ll discuss more about release and future GIF Brewery updates when the final beta is released.
Until then, happy GIF Brewing!
The GIF Brewery 3 beta has been updated as we get closer to release.
One major change in the new beta is the ability to export your clip as an *.mp4. This process uses the same frames as your GIF. This feature is experimental and we’ll be looking to potentially expand on it in later post-3.0 updates.
There are some caveats for the created *.mp4. It does not contain the original video file’s sound. Also, the *.mp4 also do not use the color optimization or the loop count options.
The GIF Brewery 3 beta has been updated again! We tidied up some bugs, tinkered with the UI, added some more options, created a new Welcome Screen, and optimized GIFs. Hope you enjoy!
Of course, GIF Brewery 3 will still create Taylor Swift and/or cat GIFs too…
Is this how you do social media?
